Dr. Jan De Kock


Dr. Jan De Kock, PE, PhD, MSc, BSc, is a Senior Electrical Engineer with over 20 years of extensive experience in Power Transformers, Power Distribution & Power Systems Protection Technology, Power Systems Security, Power Electronics, Electrical Substations and Power Generation. He is currently the Senior Professor of North West University wherein he is lecturing to various electrical students as well as post graduate students and not limited to electricians of industrial clients. He is well-known for his enthusiasm and tremendous instructing skills. Dr. De Kock spends most of his time on consultancy projects in which he is world renowned for his professionalism and practical problem solving abilities. During those period, he has worked in Power & Utilities engineering industries such as SASOL and NETGroup wherein he has built-up a formidable reputation through his amazing work design in MV & HV AC distribution systems, transformers, large induction and synchronous motors. Further, he was also responsible for the selection, design, installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of capacitor banks, generators, excitation systems, generator protection, insulation co-ordination with surge arrestors, motors, power cables, protection systems, switchgear and transformers. Dr. De Kock is a Registered Professional Engineer and has PhD, Master and Bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch. Further, he is an active member of the IEEE and a co-author of the book "Practical Power Distribution for Industry".
